Acute Care Clinics on the Weekends: a letter to our Patients and Friends

Dear Patients and Friends:
We are continually evaluating our services, availability, and offerings in an effort to be as adaptable and supportive of your treatment needs as possible. With that in mind, we wanted to let you know we will be offering expanded hours for acute care situations.
Effective May 1st, both the Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Mercy Downtown locations will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is to provide our patients opportunities for evaluation and possible treatment in the event of specific care situations as determined by your physician. Please understand, this is not a walk-in or urgent care clinic, all patients must have a scheduled appointment or be directed to the clinic by our weekend on-call staff.
During these weekend hours, both clinics will be staffed with one Advanced Patient Provider (APP), two nurses and one lab staff member and visits are available through pre-scheduled appointments only. At this time, weekend visits and treatments will be limited to:
- Injections
- IV fluids
- Acutely ill add-on patients directed to the office by on-call staff
- Chemo pump unhooks
- Lab checks
For weekend appointments, we are asking patients to report directly to the chemotherapy suites at each location. There will be additional signage with directions leading to the chemo suite.
