Mission Cancer + Blood, part of University of Iowa Health Care is seeking applicants for Pharmacy Student Intern positions located in Des Moines, IA.

Position Hours:

  • Average 10 hours per week (up to 20 hours/week during classes, up to 40 hours/week over breaks)
  • Primarily 3–5-hour shifts M-F between 0700-1800
  • Some limited weekends and holidays may be available or required
  • Preference for availability to work over summer and holiday breaks
  • Work schedules are based on availability outside of class schedule

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Document and provide services consistent with established policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements including but not limited to USP 797 and USP 800.
  • Sterile compounding of medications requested for clinic and infusion services.
  • Perform inventory maintenance activities.
  • Generate and/or maintain appropriate records related to Prescription & patient-specific order sterile compounding.
  • Perform activities involving narcotics and controlled substances.
  • Maintain area orderliness and perform weekly and monthly cleaning responsibilities.
  • Assist in on-the-job training of new technicians.
  • Coordinate technical activities with other members of team.
  • Assist pharmacist to facilitate pharmaceutical care to patients including but not limited to patient counseling, medication reconciliation, and clinical follow-up that is within scope of practice.
  • Complete and maintain compliance with all competencies and education requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a P1-P4 student at Drake College of Pharmacy
  • Must be enrolled as intern or pharmacy technician, trainee with Iowa Board of Pharmacy prior to commencement of employment.
