Epic Electronic Medical Record and MyChart

Patient Portal Now Available

Epic is the electronic medical record system (EMR) used by UI Health Care. With Epic, patients are able to have one single, comprehensive medical record. Transitioning Mission Cancer + Blood locations to Epic enables us to provide higher-quality, more personalized care that is better coordinated between the patient and care team(s).

MyChart, Epic’s patient portal, provides a way for patients to access their personal health information, and stay in touch with their care team in between visits. MyChart can help patients stay more engaged in their care.

Access your Patient Records

CareSpace is the former medical record platform for Mission Cancer + Blood. If you were a patient prior to June 2, 2025, some of your information may still be found in Care Space.

Features of MyChart

MyChart lets patients access their personal health information and even take care of many things on their own before they get to a clinic or medical center. Using MyChart is not only convenient for patients, but also for clinic and medical center staff. MyChart allows patients to:

  • View their medical record
  • Request an appointment for some services
  • See test results and medications
  • Complete eCheck-in and questionnaires prior to a clinic or medical center appointment, decreasing the time spent on these tasks on-site
  • Pay bills
  • Message securely with providers, which can reduce the volume of calls a patient may make to a clinic or medical center

Additional FAQs about MyChart and your patient records

Yes, patients will be able to see provider notes in their MyChart accounts following an appointment.

All diagnoses are shared with the patient unless they are manually unshared by a care provider. A provider might manually unshare a diagnosis if they feel it best to discuss the diagnosis with the patient before releasing the information or if further testing is needed. Patients can also review their After Visit Summary or the providers’ notes in MyChart following a visit.

Patients are able to schedule some types of appointments in MyChart, but the availability of this function depends on the type of appointment that you’re trying to schedule.

Proxies have full access to the child’s MyChart account and medical records until the child turns 14 years old. When the child turns 14, proxies then have limited access to information such as insurance coverages, the ability to update demographics, electronically sign documents, etc.

For more information on MyChart and instructions to sign up, patients can visit uihc.org/get-know-mychart. Information will also be attached to a patient’s After Visit Summary, following an appointment.

If you have issues or questions when signing up for MyChart, you can contact UI Health Access at 800-777-8442 or 319-384-8442.

At this time your past health information from visits prior to June 2, 2025 will not yet be included in MyChart. With such a large number of patient records to transfer, this will need to happen over a much longer period of time.

You can view limited health information for visits before June 2, 2025 in Care Space, accessible here.

No. Eventually all of your health information will be transferred to MyChart. You may notice that some information has already been moved to Epic, while other data will be transferred later. With such a large number of patient records to transfer, this will need to happen over a longer period of time. If you would like to request your full medical record, you can call Mission directly at 515-282-2921 or you are welcome to submit a Release of Information request through Health Information Management at https://uihc.org/medical-records-request.

If you already have a MyChart account with UI Health Care, you will not need to take any action to merge this information. We will be able to match up your patient records between systems.

Yes. You will still need to create an account and login specific to your Mission Cancer + Blood patient record. However once you’ve done this, you can then conveniently link your accounts with other health systems together in MyChart by using the “Link My Accounts” link under the “Sharing” menu.

You can view your lab and imaging results as soon as they are complete. Lab and imaging results such as x-rays or blood draws will no longer have a short time delay before release. This means that you may
see results before your health care provider has seen them, and some results may be difficult to understand without explanation. Your provider will review your result and will follow-up with you typically within three business days. If you have an immediate concern, we encourage you to contact your care team.
