Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities:

To assist patients regarding their medical bills. They are the liaison between patients and their insurance companies; coordinating payments and answering questions from both parties.

Principal Responsibilities:

– Provide financial counseling and follow up on account balances.

– Answer patient account billing questions.

– Discuss financial policy with patients.

– Implement patient payment plans when necessary.

– Assist in coordinating claims rejection errors and in the correction process.

– Post payments and charges to accounts when needed.

– Work with other areas of practice to ensure a smooth encounter for patients from start to finish.

– Evaluates accounts on a monthly basis.

– Identify drug assistance programs patients may qualify for (when applicable).

– Maintain a working knowledge of third-party payment procedures.

– Contacting patients not meeting payment guidelines and resolving issues.

Education Requirement

– College degree in healthcare or finance preferred

– Strong Insurance background preferred

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:

· Experience in working in a fast-paced business office and medical clinic where people contact and multi-tasking skills are needed to succeed.

· Knowledge of HIPAA laws to protect patient medical records and health information

· Familiarity with medical and insurance terminology

Skills and Abilities:

· Must be able to interpret and define an extensive variety of problems, collect data, document the facts, and draw valid conclusions

· Strong verbal and written communication skills are required

· Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities with demonstrated experience in case management to include some medical knowledge

· Must be able to prioritize workload and job assignments so that all deadlines are met on a timely basis

Physical Effort: Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this role including prolonged sitting, walking, bending, standing, stooping and reaching. Lifting up to 15 pounds at times.

Local Travel: Occasional, within city limits only

Extensive Hours: Varies due to need

Pay: $37,826.91 – $63,239.22 per year
